National Fitness Day

What will you do on the most active day of the year?

We at XylaHealth & Wellbeing love an excuse to get out and do something active and National Fitness Day – which is taking place on Wednesday 7th September – is providing us with loads of fantastic opportunities.

National Fitness Day – facilitated by not-for-profit body ukactive – is the biggest and most visible annual celebration of physical activity and the role it plays across the UK. The event, which takes place tomorrow for the third time, coincides with the opening ceremony of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games and aims to be the most active day of the year. Thousands of clubs, parks, leisure centres, gyms and ukactive members will be opening their doors to welcome you to get active.

It’s amazing to think that exercising for just two or three hours a week could lower your chance of developing Type 2 diabetes by 40%, cardiovascular disease by 35% and breast and colon cancers by 20%. And if that’s not a good enough reason to stay active, exercise also promotes a healthy mind; when you exercise, your body releases chemicals called endorphins that trigger positive feelings and make you feel happier!

Xyla Health & Wellbeing is one of only a few organisations in the UK dedicated to making our local and workplace communities healthier so this kind of event is right up our street and we can’t wait to get involved. We think you should too!
