Gillian’s Wellbeing journey

Gillian has completed the Mid-Sussex Wellbeing programme and has been happy to share some of her experiences with us and the positive results she has seen since taking part.

What did you enjoy about the wellbeing programme?

The programme was very good, and I feel that it really did help me. Every 2 weeks was a good frequency for the sessions, and it gives you the support you need – I loved the encouragement. I found the online modules enjoyable because they gave me a lot of information and technical background as to why we should make certain changes. To stop getting Type 2 Diabetes I like to know why we need to do it and it was great having someone to actually talk to about it. I also felt like I had the time to achieve something every 2 weeks.

With regards to specific modules, I really liked the one about diabetes and insulin and how it works. It wasn’t a case of having to read everything all the time, the coach talks you through it, and it was very comprehensive which kept me listening and retaining all the information. The sessions on exercise really encouraged me. In total, there were half a dozen modules to cover, which was definitely manageable and not too long.

What changes did you make to your lifestyle?

The way I shop for and plan my food has changed. I’m now trying new, healthier recipes and I am exercising a lot more. These changes have given me more me time.

What challenges did you face with the programme, and how did you overcome them?

Having visitors is a challenge as I need to cater for them, trying to make food that looks nice but is still healthy. The biggest challenge for me though is moving. I found it difficult during the programme as did not like the exercise classes, but I have tried a few new solo routines and walks as I prefer to move in a relaxing way in the evenings.

What changes have you seen in any measurements that have been taken?

Since starting the programme, I have lost 9lbs!

Do you have any advice for those starting the programme?

On this programme, you will have someone to talk to who is supportive and understanding, it is worth making the most of it.
