Jame’s Low Calorie Diet Journey

James has been attending the NHS Low Calorie Diet programme with  Xyla Health & Wellbeing and has seen some amazing changes since starting his journey. He has been happy to share with us some of his experiences and results.

What kind of lifestyle were you leading before the programme?

I don’t think I really took my lifestyle or my diabetes too seriously; I never really felt any symptoms, so I just carried on as if nothing was wrong with me. I didn’t really feel too concerned about my weight as I have always worked around food and spend a lot of time in the car. I had tried several diets but could not really stick to them.

How did you hear about the NHS Low Calorie Diet Programme?

I was sent a link from the doctors and I watched the videos. I remember seeing something in the paper about a ‘Soup & Shake Diet’ to help put diabetes into remission.

How does the programme fit into your life?

The TDR has fitted well into my life. I needed to get into a routine. I plan the shakes for the day and always ensure that I have a shaker, water, and sachets in the car. This way I can’t get caught short and don’t struggle to work out what to eat.

How has the programme improved your health and your life?

I really wish I did this years ago, I have lost over 3 stone already and my energy levels are amazing. My friends have really noticed the difference, and I feel great when I look in the mirror. Unfortunately, most of my clothes don’t fit me anymore! I am back in 34inch jeans (for the first time in over 20 years) and now wear medium tops instead of XL. I feel much more focussed with things and feel I can really think clearly and can plan my days. I am much more active; I walk into town rather than drive and have started the couch to 5k running app; 6 weeks in and I am now running for over 20 minutes without stopping. I struggled to run for 30 seconds when I started!

What would you say to anyone considering the programme?

This is a great programme. I don’t feel I could do this without the years worth of support from Xyla. I know that I won’t go back to my old lifestyle as I have learnt so much from the sessions. If someone was just starting, I would advise them to plan their days and try to enjoy the shakes. Serve them from a smart canister rather than a plastic pack or drink your shake from a nice glass, and don’t miss out on mealtimes with the family. Take the sessions seriously and you will learn loads!

Be active on the Wellbeing Way community forum. I used to love the fact that people liked my food pics on Facebook, but now I find that people support my weight loss even more. I also feel that maybe some people will be inspired by what I have achieved.
